LESSER KNOWN SPECIES

One of the virtues of FSC certified tropical hardwood is that the availability of known species is relatively scarce, and at the same time there is a relatively high volume available in so called lesser known species (LKS).

Tropical forests, especially in the Amazon basin, is characterized with an enormous species diversity. One of the consequences of managing the forest in the most sustainable way is a relatively low output of the most commercial species and a relatively high output of Lesser known species. A meaningful use of all the species n the forest is thereby the prerequisite of a sustainable development in and around the forest. For further studies of this interesting topic download our Rough Guide to Traceable certified Forest Products.

Lesser Known species often have splendid properties for many uses and treated and applied correctly they often substitute the known species. This way better prices and better availability can be obtained.

We gladly offer our service in the participation of developing lesser known species.
